Ode to My New Co-worker

I heard you speak about your mother

with her long fingernails of red

you said she used them often

to poke you in your head

she filled your life with dread

and so you wished her dead

that explains so much to me

I now see your complexity

I can forgive your serpent’s tongue

it grew when you were very young

from the nails that poked you in your head

and the mother that you wished was dead

she drained your sweetness out instead..

  1. I never know what to do when colleagues start going off on a tangent like that about their family… What am I supposed to say to that?
    Great poem 🙂

    • I know! It made me sad though, I just listen and take her lead. Thanks for the compliment!

  2. Very interesting. I can empathize with this person – different circumstances but same sort of conclusion. In reading what you have written, I will say you are the empathetic one.

    • Me too, although not my Mom,I live with my demons too. But am all about forgiveness these days, and find it’s helping me alot 🙂
      Thanks !

  3. 😦 …. but a good poem. 🙂
